Google launches its PDF Viewer

March 4, 2015

Google has released its PDF reader app in Play Store – Google PDF Viewer. For users who have used Google drive, know it very well that it already has an inbuilt PDF viewer. Then why this standalone app for viewing PDF files?

The app’s description on PlayStore reads – “PDF Viewing is now available directly in Google Drive. For environments where this cannot be deployed, Google PDF Viewer offers the same capabilities in a standalone app. View, print, search and copy text from pdf documents while you’re on the go.” This explains why Google has come up with a separate PDF viewer.

As mentioned, it can perform all the basic functions of a PDF viewer – print document, copy text and search. This app is a part of Android for Work initiative, wherein Google offers its Android lollipop users a dedicated Work Profile with security, management and application support built-in. For all other devices, Ice Cream Sandwich and newer, users can enjoy similar functionality through a downloadable app.

Meanwhile, Google has updated the Google Drive app for Android to version 2.2, introducing drag and drop capability and tweaked navigation menu design.
