Facebook Launches Internet.org
Mark Zuckerburg proved himself to be a man of his words. Following his vision to provide internet to more than a billion Indians, he announced the launch of internet.org website. Facebook teamed up with Reliance Communications to provide the above said facility, making India the first Asian country to get internet.org service.
The app, aimed at low income and rural users, will offer free access via mobile phone to more than 35 web services – Job listings, agricultural information, healthcare and education sites being the main areas. The content is available in seven regional languages — as well as Facebook’s own social network and messaging services.
Reliance customers in India can access these services in the Internet.org Android app, at www.internet.org, from the start screen of the Opera Mini mobile web browser, and using the Android app UC Browser for Internet.org. Most of the services will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati and Marathi.
Facebook’s Internet.org services have previously been rolled in Zambia, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and Columbia.
