Porn-based malware on Facebook

January 31, 2015

Recently, a porn-based malware was found to be crawling in the news feed of many Facebook users. It is said that more than 1,10,000 users have been a witness to it till date.

The Facebook malware is disguised as a Flash update. Basically, you’ll see a link to a porn video in one of your friend’s posts. If you click on it (don’t) you’ll be taken to a website that may or may not be disguised as YouTube and see the first few seconds of the video. Then the video will prompt you to download a Flash update to keep watching. If you do (even by mistake), you’ll infect your computer with a Trojan that can highjack your keyboard and mouse.

The malware tags at least 20 friends of the user each time it is posted.

Please! Do not download the update! No matter what!

Facebook authorities said that they were aware of the issue and are blocking these scams to ensure people a completely safe experience on the social networking site. Once again, if you see something like this, don’t click on it.
